Working in This Market and Keeping it Positive--Don't Support the Mainstream News Media!

Market Tombstones

I don’t know about you, but I don’t listen to the National News on TV in the evening anymore. That has been a long practiced event in my family, since I was a small girl. My father always listened to the National News every night. He also subscribed to Newsweek and we took the daily paper. These were all institutions in my life.

I have changed my life. We don’t listen to the National News. I don’t take the newspaper or subscribe to Newsweek. I really don’t like the New Media anymore. There is it seems an effort on the News Media’s part to concentrate on negative information. Frenzy is their favorite state. The News Media’s definition of NEWS is BAD NEWS!

I keep myself abreast of the news by selectively looking at News on my computer and reading those articles of interest. There is good news out there.

Getting rid of the News Media

I am trying to live a positive life and do positive work. I believe in my clients and their goals. I know I can sell their home or I can find the right house for their situation. I tell my clients to see the outcome we are looking for and to work on the visualization of the final results. It works! It is positive, but it is also based on hard work and the real world.

I am working with a client now who still has an active license, but is now a school teacher. She is a smart lady and is doing the math on whether they should buy at this time or not. She is calling her resources in the business to ask for advice. She is being told that “THEY” say we will be seeing a 15 to 20% decline in the market in the next year. I do not necessarily disagree it is just that I want to know who “THEY” are. I believe it is really important when helping our clients in this market to clarify where the data comes from and how much weight we can put on it.

We had projections (C.A.R., economists, etc.) from all our industry in 2007 and they were wrong. It is so important for your client to partner with you in deciding what they think the future will be. I think my client did good work and as agents we also need to research as best we can what we think this market will do and help in the decision making process. We decided that this particular house was not going to work for her because of the risk.

 Partnership

As agents going forward and working in this market, things will be changing. News Media is having less and less of an effect on us all. There are predictions that the public are doing what I am doing and turning off the TV. I am so for that. Who needs the mainstream News Media!

I do believe we are headed for a hard time and helping our clients will be critical. We all should be adding spokes to our business wheels (models) that are tailored to fit this market and allow us to be of service with the utmost knowledge, skill and diligence possible.

California Oaks in Redding, California...Just Beautiful Country!

Oak Barn

Take a drive out to Oak Run from Redding and you will see beautiful country. As you are leaving Redding you will see old ranches and newer ranchettes all along oak studded acres. Rolling golden hills with those very old oak trees is a California standard and I always enjoy them during anytime of year. There is is this deep connection in California with the Oak Tree. Scrub Oaks, Live Oaks and Black Oaks are easy to spot on your trip to Oak Run. Obviously, some very smart person named the road and small town of Oak Run appropriately.

Jeanean's Oak

Oak Run is a wonderful place to visit. It is a close community of people and a cute and quaint little town. Most people have solar for power and generator for backup. I can't swear on it, but I would guess most people don't have email. I rather think that is a nice idea. Life would be so much simpler without email.

Black Oak

Take a drive one day soon and enjoy fall colors changing. Black oaks turn all sorts of pretty colors and then loose their leaves. I use to have 27 oak trees on my property some years ago and I was afforded the pleasure of watching all my oaks in their changing seasons. I loved each and every one of those trees!

Time for Planting Bulbs for Spring Flowering Color in Redding, California!

Tulip Time

It is that time of year to prepare for and plant bulbs for spring color in your garden. I guess Tulips are my favorite. Someday, I’ll have the time to build a greenhouse in my backyard, so that I can plant bulbs in containers for bringing into the house. Most bulbs do well in our zone including, Daffodils, Crocus, and Gladiolus. My mother always planted Glads and they are a sentimental favorite for me.

Tulip Field

It is also that time to plant Iris. I love the old bearded Iris. There are new and wonderful color versions. You will be amazed at the varieties. I can’t wait to get some bulbs in this season. I usually plant each year, some part of the garden for color.  By phasing your planting in two-week intervals, you get continuous blooming. Fall is a wonderful time for enjoying getting your hands in the dirt and cleaning up the garden. That preparation pays off in the spring.

Pink Tulips

The trees are very beautiful right now in Redding and surrounding areas. Enjoy!

Wildflower1

My husband, David Gendron and I love to show property in the surrounding areas of Shasta, Trinity and Lassen National Forests. If we head East, West or North we can always take a few moments to catch a photo of Shasta or Lassen, different tree species or wildflowers.

You will be able to find Broadleaf Lupin, Brewer’s Lupin, Harlequine Lupine and Brush Lupin. Lupen just happen to be my favority wildflower and I recognize them well. I am always looking for new wildflowers that I can learn to recognize. Baby Blue Eyes are always fund\ to find and usually will cover a small areas. The make a good photo shoot. Manzanita offer up beautiful small bell-like flowers in the spring. California Poppy is always beautiful and prolific. Wild Iris are common and easy to spot.

Wildflower3

We always carry our Field Guide for Wildflowers and every excursion turns into a celebration of nature and the area we live in.

Birdwatchers Come to Redding, California, You Are Going to Love It!

Churn Creek Bridge

Bird Watchers...You Will Love Redding, California!

My husband David Gendron and I own two acres that backs to the Churn Creek. We live on a wildlife sanctuary. I know of no where in California where I can have all of nature at my back door and commute to work in 10 minutes. The Churn Creek winds through Redding and offers a diverse setting for migrating birds and wildlife. We have Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret and Green Billed Heron all in our back yard. We have many migrating birds that come through and visit the Churn. Some are seed eaters and visit our feeders and some are fruit eating birds that visit the blackberry bushes at harvest time. My husband and I spend the summer mornings with our coffee preparing for the day by watching this feast of beautiful birds coming through on the Churn. We have seen a golden eagle, Western Blue Bird, Western Tanager, Lazuli Bunting and many others. Oh, and we have a resident beaver.

Churn Creek Inlet

Redding, California has such diverse environments. The west side of town is slightly higher in elevation and feels a bit more open to views and the surrounding mountains. 299 heads west and takes you into the Trinity National Forest and the tall tree environments.

The east side of town is lower in elevation and Highway 299 and 44 head east and take you into the tall tree environments. The north side of Redding begins a slow climb to higher elevations and tall tree environments.

Traveling to Shingletown from Redding California, Ponderosa Pines Bar and Grill is a Must

Pondarosa Front
As we travel to Shingletown to show clients property or to visit clients, we love to stop at the Ponderosa Pines Bar and Grill. They make the best “Garden Burgers” on the planet. I once asked the owner, how long the restaurant had been here and he replied “Forever, as far back as he could remember”.

Pondarosa Sign

It is right at the tree line and snow line and only 20 minutes from Redding. Ready for a Sunday drive, it is the perfect place going or coming from the "Tall Trees". You will enjoy!

It is one of those tucked away places that time seems to have left alone and the result is nice. It is very quaint and the food is good. We stopped in last night around 4:00 PM, ready and prepared for our usual Garden Burgers and they were packed. It was the Friday night dinner crowd. Most tables were reserved and they were working hard to fit everyone in who was arriving without reservations.

Pondarosa Bar

I was impressed. The dinner menu looked good with a nice variety of dishes. The staff were all spruced up and eager and happy. Generally, we were aware of a good feeling of welcome….glad you are here. We highly recommend a visit on your next trip to Shingletown. Everyone needs to visit a “forever place”.

Pondarosa Dining

I asked for an email address....but alas....they don't do email. I kinda like that! Must be part of the charm!

If You Like Fly Fishing, You are Going to Love Redding California!

David Fly Fishing - Shasta

My husband and I are Fly Fishing enthusiasts. We love being on the river and the connection it brings to the river and to the environment.

There is nothing better than hunting that “brookie” or “brown”. My husband David, fly fisherman extraordinaire (he is poetry in motion when it comes to fly fishing) and professional photographer is the true fly fisherman.

He can fly fish anywhere in any condition. I, on the other hand have to have just the right spot and just the right equipment and so on and on. I fiddle at fly fishing. However, both styles of fly fishing are wonderful.

As I said, it is not really about the how but why. The why is being in the river with glorious sky above and beauty all around and the knowingness of that one second in time when you are completely connected to all living things? That one transcendent moment when you and nature are one is transformative. You are the fish, you are the river and you are all that surrounds you.

David Fly Fishing Shasta 2

We of course practice catch and release and have been asked “why bother”. The answer to that is in the act of “thinking like the fish” and therefore “being the fish”.

Once you have that connection and you actually succeed in “catching the fish” there is complete satisfaction. That second when you are allowed to gently release the hook (no barbs) and as the fish swims free from your gently cupped hand, the celebration of having met this lovely fish for that very short space in time is forever in your memory. I remember every fish I have every caught. The “brookies” shines like a penny and the “rainbows” jumps and fights so beautifully with such spirit. It is all SO, SO GOOD!

Come visit Redding and enjoy the best fishing rivers, streams and lakes in California. Look David and Jeanean Gendron up….and we’ll go with you!
