In December 2011 in the middle of the holidays and several Active Rain challenges, Jeanean Gendron started the Go-Giver Group and challenged the AR community to “Please join the group and make a commitment to buy the book and read it during the Holidays …. “ 

As much as I adore Jeanean, I passed on her invitation challenge because I could not think of adding another book to my reading list or adding another “to do” on my already endless list! I was feeling stressed out and challenged out!

Life is ever-changing.  What a few days or weeks can do to change our perspective! 

I committed to reviving a healthier, happy, me in 2012.  This resulted in my own personal weight loss challenge (there is that word again!) which begins tomorrow, Sunday, February 5, 2012.

One thing is for absolute certain. The principles of the book are not foreign to me.  It’s like a kick-in-the butt refresher course about all I know about life, living, loving, and giving. 

I must confess, I allowed myself to slip from the level of giving consciousness that makes me happiest.  I’m already feeling a shift back home to who and how I want to be in this world. 

Pindar’s “Five Laws to Stratospheric Success” are no secret.  I feel many of us over-think life.  We tend to make life hard when it is really very simple. 

The First Law – The Law of Value: “Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.”

The Second Law – The Law of Compensation: “Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.”

Google and SEO - Is Google Your Friend?

GoogleThis is one of the last post I will write for the 2012 Big Jumpstart Back to Basics Blog Challenge. I don't know if anything I have written has been of value. It seems that we all know it and are doing it. I am not really an expert on many of the things that I have written about in this contest. I have just summarized what the learning that I have experienced over these last five years has encompassed. We always have more to learn. I need to do some new work with Google.

If you have not set up your profile with Google, you should do so. The better Google knows you, the more Google trust you. Again, I am not a Google expert but it seems to work well for me. Google Custom Maps is a great way to showcase your communities and allows you to put the Icons you feel are important in your area. They can be hot links to your listings and/or your market reports. Anything, that you want to embed in the Maps, you can. There is always Google Adwords. The big producers recommend using Google Adwords among all the things you do. After seeing how effective blogging is, I choose not to pay for SEO. YouTube is in the Google Suite and GooglePicassa. I could go on but today I wanted to look at what's new in the Google playground.

Our goal in all we do is to create systems that will deliver us the ability to market and sell our servcies. We require systems that will help us to manage, that Circle of Engagement that we are connecting in Social Media. The purpose of what we do is to produce Lead Generation through our efforts. It will be critical to analyze our success on an ongoing basis. Google Analytics should be central to how you review your success and where you are coming up with the Search Engines.

GoogleGoogle offers so many of the tools that you can utilize in this process. New on the landscape is Google +. This is Google's own social network platform. In November, Business Pages became available on Google + and all of a sudden there seemed to be more that we could expect. It is a good thing to be rolling along with Google + and testing out those waters. My hope will be that they will present a more stable environment for development than FaceBook does. Facebook's constant mode of changing makes chasing the development rabbit difficult.

HubSpot.com

Here is an except from Hubspot's free ebook on Google +.....Please register with them and download your own ebook. They provide lots of good stuff and you should be registered with them so that you are on their mailing list. I am providing this here so that you can take a peak and see the value they offer. HubSpot is the perfect model of how we see the evolution of value oriented knowledge products. Study them and learn.

Google+ allows businesses to create pages and develop relationships with prospects and customers on multiple levels. Individuals can add a brand to a specific Google+ Circle, share a Google+ page with their network, and interact with the content posted by that company. for instance, users can +1 (or in other words, endorse) the updates a company publishes, leave comments, upload photos, and tag the brand in them. An interesting aspect of this platform is that its Hangouts feature enables companies to engage with fans, prospects, andGoogle customers through video conference calls.

It's just one more point of connection in that Circle of Engagement you are building. It will probably be a good idea to be there. It may become an important one. Here are HubSpot's key directives: Use lots of photos. Use the Recommend Links feature to drive traffic to your destinations and your business. You should be promoting your Google+ Business Page on your websites and blogs. Cross-promotion is key to building a strong Google+ community. Encourage people to share your posts and make sure you are analyzing your traffic. HubSpot offers you many tools to optimize the process.

It's all out there and Google remains an important aspect of what we do in the world of Social Media. The main reason that you want to do this is that you want Google to know who you are and to trust you. When you are open about who you are and what products you use frequently, you are providing constant new and compelling information that Google likes. The more that Google likes you....well the more you will be found. Websites using Google's +1 button get 3.5 times the Google+ visits.
 
Is it the future.....you tell me. Facebook created something new and it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Google+ may have some changes and new ideas on how the landscape of interaction and engagement moves forward. Engagement and recognition of your brand is the name of the game!

ActiveRain Content, Localism and the Circle of Engagement! Get On Board!

It comes to us by degrees. We build that marketing and branding awareness and we improve it year after year. Connections are made and engagement occurs. Having an effective on-line presence means many things in today's world. Social media has brought the opportunity to create a solid circle of engagement for you to market your real estate services. People always want to know if I sell real estate on Facebook. The answer is yes. If you are doing those right things in this market to differentiate yourself and to brand for your market, you will be found everywhere and you will be perceived as providing value in all you do.

Business Engagement

So what are the items that will bring you business in this current economy as a real estate agent? It is not enough to just be a real estate agent any longer. It would be those that provide value to the Consumer that will be able to stand out in the current economic and trending real estate markets. There is a change afoot and doing business in the old way will give way to the new. It is important to make note that those having established a 30 year business of relationships and good real estate practice will continue to offer their services. If they combine the old and the new, they will rock and roll!

  1. ActiveRain and Blogging are an effective way to provide value to the Consumer and to share who you are and how you do business. Many times, it will be the reader that connects with you on lifestyle matters that calls to have you help them relocate to your area. The sellers that see the marketing and the story you tell about your listings, calls you for your help in selling their home. Much more personal and warm are the calls that come from the work you do and the content you provide in Blogging. The reader feels that they already know you and that you have provided them with value that they immediately recognize and utilize. Your relationship is already off to a great start.
  2. Content will always be king in our business. Where static websites no longer see the light of day, blogs provide the opportunity to knowledge-share and to published fresh rich content that the reader finds useful and inspiring. Dedicated to loving where you live and sharing it with your readers, you will benefit in many ways. They have new insight into the lifestyles that may be possible and they have learned more about your area. Diverse offerings provide market knowledge and community insight that is helpful in make an initial decision on an area to relocate to. The harder you work to provide a dynamic repository of information and knowledge for your readers, the more value you are perceived to provide. It is an endless circle of connection that can bring you good business. You become know as the local expert and the person gracious in sharing your knowledge.
  3. Value--it is a climate when we hunger for quality in customer service and for that knowledge provider that educates in their products and services. Real estate does not differ and when your reader comes to trust the information you provide on the trending real estate market conditions, the community events and lifestyles that are possible, they perceive you to be offering them value. They trust you for your "giving" and knowledge experience. It comes back in the nicest of ways.
  4. Localism--is a powerful concept. I personally think that it came about here in the RAIN before many of us were ready to make the concept dance. We no longer offer the City Sponsorships but you can still sponsor Communities here in the RAIN. I have on many occasions talked about DKRs. Dynamic Knowledge Repositories are server based systems of on demand knowledge that you make available to your reader. We have that capability here in the RAIN and we have had it for some time. I sponsor Mary Lake and Country Heights here in Redding. I am able to create market reports for these communities and when talking with clients or writing for my readers, I can refer them to a dedicated URL where I sponsor the information for this Community. I am showcased as the Realtor creating a DKR for these Communities. Creating rich content and the latest trending news for these communities I am providing value that is perceived to be helpful to my clients and readers. You are trusted as the Local Expert for these communities.
  5. Wordpress Blogs--building a branded Wordpress Blog is a critical next step in creating that powerful Circle of Engagement that you desire for your readers and your clients. My clients often times tell me that when they searched the North State they found me everywhere. I do this by creating a dynamic and compelling presence in my niche markets. I have sites for Alternatives to Foreclosure, Foreclosures, First Time Home Buyers, Investors, and people looking to relocate to our area. My main Wordpress Blog is The Shasta Lifestyle where I brand for the North State and how we live surrounded by beauty and wilderness area.
  6. Niche Market Syndication--The Wordpress blogs are the spigot for your niche market brands and offers you a wonderful opportunity to build SEO. Carefully thought out strategy can allow you to own not just the first or second position on Google but to own the entire first page of Google. I have a couple of search terms where I do own the entire page. Developing the unique brand for each market niche is a dance and a celebration for you and your local market. Have fun with it and your reader will also find it to be fun and very valuable.
  7. Facebook--yes Facebook does bring you business. If it were a stand alone offering, I don't think that it would. My clients ask me "Are you on Facebook?". If I did not have a compelling presence there, I personally feel that they would be let down. They ask me question about real estate and I answer. They are engaged with me. You must first have a profile that is engaging and has interest from others. From a good following, you then create and brand a Facebook page. You can decide to have it be for all your business or you can create for niche markets. A word of caution it is better to have one that rocks than several that do not. Hootsuite can help with managing your offerings out to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  8. Twitter--yes, I get business from Twitter. It again would not be the only thing that you would do to get business but it is again another place where you would want to be found. Create again a beautiful page that represents your brand awareness and has you noticed. I once had 10,000 followers and that is dropping. I will be making a new effort with Twitter this year and again, Hootesuite makes it easier.
  9. LinkedIn--offers many opportunities. You can syndicate your blog to Linked in and you can start discussion groups on your niche markets. It is another spoke in the Circle of Connection that links your on-line marketing presence in an endless circle of connection. It is not one place that you can be found but in many places. When you embrace this Circle of Engagement, your content inspires and is syndicated out and re-purposed. You are creating that "shot gun" effect of a marketing presence that rocks.
  10. Social Media Sites--there are many and you should seek them out and learn about them all. YouTube and establishing your own real estate channel for your brand and your market....how cool is that. Delicious, Digg, Technorati and StumbleUpon are just a few. Google them and learn about them. Check it all out and have some fun. The digital world has changed the playing field and you have opportunity and the abiliity to effectively market and brand for yourself in your market. Make it happen. It will not be overnight. It will be by degress but the end result is something quite awesome. A Circle of Engagement that offers your clients knowledge and value.
  11. HubSpot--if you need some help with all of this....HubSpot offers some free things to help you and they also offer you marketing services for Social Media and web development. They rock.

Relocating to the North State - Trinidad by the Sea - North State Must See Destination--you will want to make sure that you visit and enjoy the Northern Coast of California. Know around the World as some of the most dangerous Seas and also know to be one of the most beautiful Coasts. Spectacular bluffs and craggy coastal waters make for blue green waters that just melt away into blue green skys. The eye seeks to see more and the soul finds peace for the day.

We love to take day trips and visit all the beautiful areas around Redding and Shasta County CA. We were in Eureka in October, 2011 and enjoyed a couple of days visiting and getting to know the area. One of the places we fell in love with was Trinidad CA by the Sea. Here are a few photos of our time at the Trinidad Beach.

Celebrating the talent and creativity of a local Film Maker. He won the Sundial Film Festival in 2005 and recently created a stir with his Fotoshop by Adobe. Photography in the World of Real Estate - The Visual Art Form of Marketing!

I have always been a visual person. I love certain colors that draw me and entertain me. I love beauty and the visual aesthetic quality of presenting things well. There is a flow to the art of presentation that will keep the eye moving and finds the heart and mind feeling satiated. When things are not so placed there is a war going on within the mind to analyze and find the flaw. When we have achieved that beautiful balance of placement, color, texture and flow, the mind joins with the heart to enjoy and experience that "aha moment".

Photography is of great value in real estate. It provides the opportunity to help our Reader learn more about our local community. We can use it to help the Reader find that "aha moment" in our work and to come to appreciate our presentations. It works well in all regards to real estate. It can delight and it can provide practical marketing benefits for a listing. There is a wide range between the two. Let' s just enjoy several photos that take us in diverse directions today. We are enjoying how photography can delight our Readers. No "how to" or "equipment" related tips....just the experience.

I have been taking photos for Localism for several years now and have a vast inventory of photos for my work. This was taken on a rare day when Shasta Lake was full. I don't take many photos of the Lake because most of the time it is not pretty. The water levels have gone down at times to 200 feet leaving a sad sight. This was a beautiful clear day when you could see Mount Shasta. It is a favorite photo of mine and I brand with it.

This is a logo that I designed for The ActiveRain Go-Givers Group. Using Picnik (sob) we have endless capabilities to design and create photo art. Charting, collages and slide presentations are all possible. We have heard that Picnik will be shut down in April, 2012.

I love this photo. This was a Tuscan Villa that David and I truly enjoyed doing the marketing for. I love the richness and warmth of the room. She had created the perfect subject to photograph. We had fun showcasing this beautiful estate.

Visiting the Coast we enjoyed the beach and captured this shot. The art of sharing is an art form when practiced often. Wherever we go, we always take our camera and we are always prepared to get a shot that will be worthy of sharing with our Readers. It is the sweet part of our work and it is very effective.
