Jeanean Gendron, Your Shasta County Real Estate Specialist: Is it really the points that count?

Is it really the points that count?

Celebration

I think not. I am a Newbie. I've made an investment in blogging and reading and doing the profile and so on and so on. I have been working at getting a clue about exactly what Active Rain is and what it can mean to me and my business. Please correct me if I am wrong.....the points get you to the top of the ranking system in your local area....right?

That can be good and may bring your referrals? Correct? There are some good ways to do this and some not so good ways to do this. Correct?

So THAT is rather all I can come up with on the points issue. What I really find to be the value is the information sharing and knowledge sharing that can help at every level and I think on every subject. Correct?

For me....the value comes at many levels.....tech level....I would like to know how to insert photos with the text wrapping and how to correctly insert links in my blogs to provide credit and reference other bloggers.....all good and neat....but not really where the value is.

The REAL VALUE for me comes in the LEARNING. That's what Active Rain is. It is a self-organizing learning system for all users. Rather amazing I think. I am caught up with something unexpected and that I did not even know existed. I am thinking about Active Rain as I put the rollers in my hair in order to get ready to go to the office.  I am thinking about Active Rain when I go to bed at night and it takes me an hour to fall asleep.

I don't think I've been this excited about anything since.....I got my first bike at Christmas when I was 6. This is BIG!

Thanks for letting me share my excitement! It really is extraordinary.

Hi Jeanean... welcome to the Rain!  I'm a newbie too, and I thought the same thing about the points when I first arrived.  I'm here to learn and, hopefully, boost my business.  But I gotta admit, I now think the points are kinda nice too.  Although I don't have many yet and certainly don't check them everytime I do something, to me, they represent a verification that I AM doing something, a potential for boosting my business, and most importantly, a degree of acceptance and recognition with the Rain community.  And to answer your questions: Click on the little tree icon in your tool bar to upload a photo and set the parameters to wrap the text.  You'll see how it will look on the pop-up box example.  Be sure to set the Alignment, i.e., where you want to photo to appear, the Horizontal and Vertical Space (I usually use a value of "2"), and the Dimensions.  I usually put about "300" or less in the first box, tab to the next one and it magically adjusts for you.  There are a number of good blogs about the process which explain it musch better than I.  So, again, Welcome, keep reading, keep learning, keep writing, and keep building those points!

Jeanean, welcome to Active Rain.  I think as a newbie, you have certainly caught on quickly to why you are here as indicated by this post.  We're here to learn.  You can learn so much so quickly.  Explore around as much as you can.  I've been very active here since early July and haven't looked back.  At this point it is hard to imagine the business before Active Rain.  If you haven't already, it sounds like you need to join our Active Rain Addicts group...

Well Jeanean I want to echo the comments made above including the welcome. You have a great attitude and the right perspective about what AR is all about.  I will be watching you as you continue your journey here and cheering you on.

I'm not a newbie. I've been here over a year, but I want to Welcome you to ActiveRain.

I found your blog via the BlogRush widget on an outside AR blog, that's pretty impressive for a newbie!  I had to click to see if the "points" in your headline are ActiveRain points.  I have to agree you have the right perspective about the points and about ActiveRain.
