It is that time of year to prepare for and plant bulbs for spring color in your garden. I guess Tulips are my favorite. Someday, I’ll have the time to build a greenhouse in my backyard, so that I can plant bulbs in containers for bringing into the house. Most bulbs do well in our zone including, Daffodils, Crocus, and Gladiolus. My mother always planted Glads and they are a sentimental favorite for me.

It is also that time to plant Iris. I love the old bearded Iris. There are new and wonderful color versions. You will be amazed at the varieties. I can’t wait to get some bulbs in this season. I usually plant each year, some part of the garden for color. By phasing your planting in two-week intervals, you get continuous blooming. Fall is a wonderful time for enjoying getting your hands in the dirt and cleaning up the garden. That preparation pays off in the spring.
The trees are very beautiful right now in Redding and surrounding areas. Enjoy!
