Whiskeytown Lake ~ Great Place to Go Swimming ~ Shasta County California!

We have a golden retriever named "Gigi" and she is the heart of our family. She is nurse maid, companion and wrestling partner all rolled into one. She is 2.5 years old and does not have the best manners. She is very well behaved with us and the three of us are very social. It all works great until we have a visitor and then everything breaks down. So we are headed back to training classes for Level Two.

In the meantime, she is a very good Realtor assistant. She interrupts me constantly and needs a rub or a cookie. This causes me out of love to get up and take a break and spend time with her. She stays with me in my office as I work until 1 or 2 hours pass and then she demands a break. I figure it's good for her and me.

She also gets tired of being housebound. She gets walks around the neighborhood, but her favorite thing is to go to the lake. David is teaching her to swim. Who every heard of a golden retriever that can't swim. He gets her in the water, however she wants to keep her footing and will not launch in and swim. Funny!

Here are some photos of David and our beloved companion "Gigi".

No way am I going back in that water after what you did last time!

Gigi4

Okay, Daddy...I guess that was kinda fun....let's do it again!

Gigi5

Well almost....water gun toy that sucks and then shoots water almost did the trick. She tries to catch the water....but it just would not get those feet off the bottom. Next time! We all had fun!

Hi Jeanean,

Great photos. A nice reminder that we all need those little breaks to stop and smell the roses daily, thanks.

Jeaneann, Gigi is beautiful. What I love most about working out of my home office is my Bella's companionship!

Jeanean, Gigi is adorable and I can relate to the manners breaking down when there is a visitor. My dog loves the water - and he has taught some other dogs to swim, they learn from each other. You might go with a friend who has a dog who swims, and see if Gigi will go all the way in with the other dog.

Sharon, thanks for the tip. We do have a friend with a Lab that we could meet and have lunch at the lake with. Great idea! Thanks for stopping by, the advice and the read!

Hi Jeanean, what a cute story... Gigi is sooo cute. I bet she's fun to have around, especially if she keeps you from overworking.

I have a cat, well--you know how cats are!! He doesn't really want anything to do with me until he's hungry! :) I'm really a dog person, but we don't have one right now; so my independent, non-social cat is the stand-in. :)
