Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is part of the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The Visitor Center is located on Highway 299 and Kennedy Memorial Drive. The Visitor Center is open daily during the summer from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. All permits and passes are available there. A large selection of books and postcards are also available.
Whiskeytown Dam was dedicated in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy. Whiskeytown Lake was created as part of the Central Valley Project for the purposes of flood control, irrigation and power generation. With more than 40,000 acres in a mountain lake setting, Whiskeytown is home to a variety of wildlife.
The Visitor Center offer all the passes, maps, books and history of Whiskeytown National Park. You can learn about the topography of the area, the wildlife and the flora and fauna!

The view from the Visitor's Center is beautiful. It was hazy due to the fires we had recently. On a clear day it's gorgeous.

Jeanean, this is such a neat area... my husband and I took a road trip in 2006, and I wanted to stop there, but we couldn't fit it in!! As you know, there is so much to see in California. Thanks for the post--I still want to get up there to see the waterfall!!
