I've been missing a bit for the last week. I share with you something new in my life.

Celiac Disease Disclosure: This post is not about me.....it is about never giving up and finding your way. There are many people out there that have this same disease and it will not be diagnosed. I am writing and sharing this to help others that they may find the diagnosis and the ability to get help before severe damage has occurred. DON'T FEEL SAD FOR ME....BE HAPPY THAT WE NOW HAVE A CLUE. READ THIS FOR OTHERS IN YOUR LIFE THAT MAY HAVE THIS DISEASE.

NEVER GIVE UP--It seems sometimes like the Universe conspires to give us a bit too much in one little period of time. The thing to always remember is that you are not alone. It is pretty much that way for all of us and having that little bit of knowledge can really make a difference. When we hear from others how they don't give up and how they keep on trying, we have been given a gift that allows us to be inspired. We are encouraged to keep striving to succeed and to overcome whatever event has occurred and to benefit from it.

If I look back over my life, it reads rather like some awful soap opera or giant thick novel that you can't believe the time line and events sequence of epic proportions. I am sure that I do have a book to write. My problem will be on the work of condensing it. I have a knack for long efforts of expression. This is true for us all.

BEING FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE IS KEY--It is not over until it is over and there is always hope. The future holds miracles for us all and the past does not. Being focused on the future is a formula for one and all and probably is the single most important thing that has helped me in my lifetime. I resist going through the long list of things that have been overcome in my lifetime to simply say that this formula has seen me through each and every event to find some new constructive meaning in life that was beneficial.

My Health--I have had health issues for many years. It is interesting how many people are not able to tolerate illness in others. I have many friends who have been supportive and others who see it as somehow my fault. It is so interesting the complexity of what we can integrate. I am a firm believer in not judging but allowing what ever may be the situation and I have done so with my friends.

David and I have put endless energy into figuring out on our own many pieces of the puzzle to only disclose these findings to Doctors who said that there is no help and no diagnosis. It is an auto-immune disease and we don't know what causes it. Here is a pill. Go away. The pills always make me sick with their side effects. My current Doctor says that and I quote "I am what is known as "a bad patient". I won't take the meds and they don't have time for me if I won't do as they tell me to do. By the way, I don't care how sick the meds make you, you need to take them until you body adjustS. If you can't breath then call me and we can talk about it." I promise you that is a direct quote.

I have lived in pain for many years and have trouble walking. My spine is collapsing. I have a thyroid disorder. I cannot digest food. I have had a heart attack. I have had signs of Congestive Heart Failure and been in the hospital for treatment. I have high blood pressure, a sleep disorder and Peripheral Neuropathy. In the last two years, I have had a skin conditions that is dry scaly and itchy. No amount of moisturizers seem to help. I would believe it safe to say this might be a sign of advanced Celiac but can't be sure (skin condition). The symptoms are widely differing between people.

We recently were talking to a friend, Doris Blackburn over New Years who has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. As we listened to her story, I began to hear familiar symptoms and to question whether I might have Celiac Disease also. On her suggestion, I researched. It connects the dots and puts all the puzzle pieces there in one place. I have probably had this since birth. I have always had a poor metabolism. Throughout my life, if I did the Adkins diets, I would see improved energy and my body would lose the inflammation. I have another friend with Celiac Disease and her symptoms are equally severe but very different.

Celiac Disease is not curable and is fatal if not treated. What we have to hope for is that it is not too late. I don't know if bone can grow again but I am so much better off than my friend Doris. who will now require extensive spinal surgery as her spine has literally collapsed in several places. She is in excruciating pain. I am praying for her. The treatment is a gluten free diet and can take up to two years for severe cases to regrow the villi that line the lower intestine and aid digestion. Celiac patients suffer from malnutrition because these villi have been destroyed. David and I have told Doctor after Doctor that I don't get nutrition and that my body is malnourished.

I have been on a gluten free diet for a couple of weeks now with little improvement. We are moving more toward soups, liquids and soft food to aid digestion. Vitamins are critical to Celiac patients as it provides some small measure of nutrients and nutrition for the body.

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE--We have made progress on our own. I am able to control the water retention (edema) that caused my tendancy toward Congestive Heart Failure and have that element under control. I no longer require the CPAP machine at night. I have taken vitamins for a very long period because I noticed that they helped me significantly. I have long tried to eat vegetables and fruit each day to aid in digestion. I knew intuitive that bread was not good for me and only gave into it on weekends....including pasta. No more and with pleasure.

We have been treating the Thyroid for sometime now and I am sure that is the one thing that helped to get me back into activity in 2010. I basically could not get out of bed. I was so exhausted and weak. They also put me on the CPAP and oxygen at night. I slowly began to have more energy and to come back into activity. They were giving me Gabapentin which induces water retention (edema) and was contributing to my inability to breath. I figured this out after a hospital stay where they gave me a strong diuretic. I went home and researched all my meds to find that Gabapentin was contributing to the edema on the lungs. Progress was spotty and two steps forward and one backward now and again. Overall, progress was made.

Now, we may better understand what will provide me with the best help I can get. We will be seeing Doctors (looking for a new Doctor and I will be interviewing them) and we will be finally focused in what we feel is the answer. How sad that as a young girl, I was not given this information. I write this for young girls and families all over the world that you may know of this disease and learn about the symptoms. I write it for my good friends who are in such pain and are so sick. We are not making this up. This disease kills because it goes undiagnosed. If you have loved ones that suffer from an auto-immune disease, IBS, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Thyroid and rheumatoid arthritis....the list goes on and on. So many of these conditions may be linked to this disease.

LITTLE ANT WITH THE RUBBER TREE PLANT--I am one stubborn person and I just don't give up easily. I am here and I will be better day by day and week by week. I will walk better and I will eventually be able to actually exercise. I will start small and it will progress. Health is my goal and I have zeroed in on it with a focus of determination. I will write about this disease now from time to time to help bring awareness.

In the meantime, if you could say some prayers for my good friend Doris Backburn. She is struggling and she could sure use some wonderful AR prayers for her healing and health. I sure love her.

I have a good friend in life and in Business. We have both been working hard and would like to go and play. No play for us for a while. We have much to do....helping some sweet First Time Home Buyers that are on fire with determination. It is needed in this very agressive market right now. So we are on the phone a lot and running around to see each and every house that might do....we will be successful. Lots of phone calls. This might be my fav part of real estate.

I created a full blown Webinar today for our HUD trainings. We are about to send out our monthly email blast for the training that will now include a webinar version...Yeah! David is still parsing the email for the latest updated email list. Maybe tomorrow we can do the email blast.

We now have 2 or our 3 short sales approved and since we cannot play for a while....I'm celebrating some of David's work that he's done since we have been here in Redding. I really need to do something new because he has newer things and I like them also.

So here is to fun coming soon and sharing some good work with you from someone that I like rather much!

ActiveRain University - Three Very Important Things to Do for Learning!

Finished--Not! I thought that I had finished the 2012 Big Jumpstart Contest Back to Basics Blog Challenge only to find out that I have one more post to do. I have to say that I am glad this is the case because it provides me the opportunity to showcase what for me are the three most important things to do when you become a member of ActiveRain. I've been around for a while and I have to say that partaking in some of the November, December and January Contests/Challenges have brought me new insights and allowed me to discover new things here in the RAIN. I love that! Old dogs can learn new things and that is my favorite thing about the RAIN. So here are the three things that I suggest you do if you are new and for a few of us even if you've been around, it wouldn't hurt.

ActiveRain University Basic Webinars--if you are brand new and trying to figure out how and what....take a class every day or week and engage. You will learn and promote new business. It is that simple. Just do it. Make a commitment and use AR to maximize your business on-line.

Funny Night with Ginger Hogging the Sofa!

I had bad leg cramps the other night. I get these very severe leg cramps that actually damage my legs. This one was on the left side of my left leg. It went up the tendons on the top of my foot and all up the left side of my left leg. They are very painful and I can't even walk them off. I wake up screaming with the pain. We keep Sea Salt next to the bed and I take Sea Salt under my tongue and David will try to help by massaging my leg for the spasm to go away. It was a bad night with two different sets of cramps. Believe it or not...and I will never figure out how David knew that Sea Salt would help but it does.

Next day, I am limping. That's the bad news and the good news is that we believe that I have Celiac Disease. It is fatal but can if caught early can be lessoned by eating a gluten free diet. I've been on it for a couple of weeks and so, we were surprised by the leg cramps. It is amazing to me that after 15 years of a moving target in trying to get a diagnosis, we figure it out ourselves and that I have suffered so much damage from Doctors not diagnosing it. Bone loss, thyroid disorder, a heart attack, inflamation and congestive heart failure....it goes on. We have little by litte on our own figure out the things that seem to help me. I am no longer on a Cpap machine and life has improved so much. In 2010, I could not get out of bed. I was so sick that I simply would have to go back to bed. I don't know how we got from there to where we are today. We are hopeful to see more improvement when I begin to recover and some nutrients make it through my gut and to my body for it's use.

We showed property all day Saturday and I limped through the day. By the time we got home, my leg was really hurting. David sat on the sofa to try to loosen up the very sad and hurting leg. Well, Ginger got so upset with him for sitting on the sofa. She and I share the big sofa....she has lots of room to stretch out and she gets two thirds of the sofa and I get on third. She obviously takes her ownership very seriously. She got down off the sofa in a huff and went and laid down on the floor with the well known look of disdain.

After David had worked on my leg, he went back over to his "Big Daddy" chair and Ginger claimed her sofa. She stetched out as far as she could to engage the entire two thirds of that sofa. We were laughing so hard. We have a very long dog.

Redding CA - Lake Redding Park - Where the Train Trestle Tracks Go - Don't You Just Love Them--Located along the Sacramento River is Lake Redding Park. It is right next to Caldwell Park which a Blog about often. We go here. There is a picturesque foot bridge (my next photo project) and of course the River which affords many photo ops. Also along here are the railroad trestle tracks and I can't resist them. I'm always snapping a shot or two. Enjoy!

This is a Gazebo next to the River for Groups to plan parties and picknics. I love the Trestle in the background.

Google and SEO - Is Google Your Friend?

This is one of the last post I will write for the 2012 Big Jumpstart Back to Basics Blog Challenge. I don't know if anything I have written has been of value. It seems that we all know it and are doing it. I am not really an expert on many of the things that I have written about in this contest. I have just summarized what the learning that I have experienced over these last five years has encompassed. We always have more to learn. I need to do some new work with Google.

If you have not set up your profile with Google, you should do so. The better Google knows you, the more Google trust you. Again, I am not a Google expert but it seems to work well for me. Google Custom Maps is a great way to showcase your communities and allows you to put the Icons you feel are important in your area. They can be hot links to your listings and/or your market reports. Anything, that you want to embed in the Maps, you can. There is always Google Adwords. The big producers recommend using Google Adwords among all the things you do. After seeing how effective blogging is, I choose not to pay for SEO. YouTube is in the Google Suite and Picassa. I could go on but today I wanted to look at what's new in the Google playground.

Our goal in all we do is to create systems that will deliver us the ability to market and sell our servcies. We require systems that will help us to manage, that Circle of Engagement that we are connecting in Social Media. The purpose of what we do is to produce Lead Generation through our efforts. It will be critical to analyze our success on an ongoing basis. Google Analytics should be central to how you review your success and where you are coming up with the Search Engines.

Google offers so many of the tools that you can utilize in this process. New on the landscape is Google +. This is Google's own social network platform. In November, Business Pages became available on Google + and all of a sudden there seemed to be more that we could expect. It is a good thing to be rolling along with Google + and testing out those waters. My hope will be that they will present a more stable environment for development than FaceBook does. Facebook's constant mode of changing makes chasing the development rabbit difficult.

HubSpot.com

Here is an except from Hubspot's free ebook on Google +.....Please register with them and download your own ebook. They provide lots of good stuff and you should be registered with them so that you are on their mailing list. I am providing this here so that you can take a peak and see the value they offer. HubSpot is the perfect model of how we see the evolution of value oriented knowledge products. Study them and learn.

Google+ allows businesses to create pages and develop relationships with prospects and customers on multiple levels. Individuals can add a brand to a specific Google+ Circle, share a Google+ page with their network, and interact with the content posted by that company. for instance, users can +1 (or in other words, endorse) the updates a company publishes, leave comments, upload photos, and tag the brand in them. An interesting aspect of this platform is that its Hangouts feature enables companies to engage with fans, prospects, and customers through video conference calls.

It's just one more point of connection in that Circle of Engagement you are building. It will probably be a good idea to be there. It may become an important one. Here are HubSpot's key directives: Use lots of photos. Use the Recommend Links feature to drive traffic to your destinations and your business. You should be promoting your Google+ Business Page on your websites and blogs. Cross-promotion is key to building a strong Google+ community. Encourage people to share your posts and make sure you are analyzing your traffic. HubSpot offers you many tools to optimize the process.

It's all out there and Google remains an important aspect of what we do in the world of Social Media. The main reason that you want to do this is that you want Google to know who you are and to trust you. When you are open about who you are and what products you use frequently, you are providing constant new and compelling information that Google likes. The more that Google likes you....well the more you will be found. Websites using Google's +1 button get 3.5 times the Google+ visits.

Is it the future.....you tell me. Facebook created something new and it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Google+ may have some changes and new ideas on how the landscape of interaction and engagement moves forward. Engagement and recognition of your brand is the name of the game!

ActiveRain Content, Localism and the Circle of Engagement! Get On Board!

It comes to us by degrees. We build that marketing and branding awareness and we improve it year after year. Connections are made and engagement occurs. Having an effective on-line presence means many things in today's world. Social media has brought the opportunity to create a solid circle of engagement for you to market your real estate services. People always want to know if I sell real estate on Facebook. The answer is yes. If you are doing those right things in this market to differentiate yourself and to brand for your market, you will be found everywhere and you will be perceived as providing value in all you do.

So what are the items that will bring you business in this current economy as a real estate agent? It is not enough to just be a real estate agent any longer. It would be those that provide value to the Consumer that will be able to stand out in the current economic and trending real estate markets. There is a change afoot and doing business in the old way will give way to the new. It is important to make note that those having established a 30 year business of relationships and good real estate practice will continue to offer their services. If they combine the old and the new, they will rock and roll!

ActiveRain and Blogging are an effective way to provide value to the Consumer and to share who you are and how you do business. Many times, it will be the reader that connects with you on lifestyle matters that calls to have you help them relocate to your area. The sellers that see the marketing and the story you tell about your listings, calls you for your help in selling their home. Much more personal and warm are the calls that come from the work you do and the content you provide in Blogging. The reader feels that they already know you and that you have provided them with value that they immediately recognize and utilize. Your relationship is already off to a great start.
Content will always be king in our business. Where static websites no longer see the light of day, blogs provide the opportunity to knowledge-share and to published fresh rich content that the reader finds useful and inspiring. Dedicated to loving where you live and sharing it with your readers, you will benefit in many ways. They have new insight into the lifestyles that may be possible and they have learned more about your area. Diverse offerings provide market knowledge and community insight that is helpful in make an initial decision on an area to relocate to. The harder you work to provide a dynamic repository of information and knowledge for your readers, the more value you are perceived to provide. Localism--is a powerful concept. I personally think that it came about here in the RAIN before many of us were ready to make the concept dance. We no longer offer the City Sponsorships but you can still sponsor Communities here in the RAIN. I have on many occasions talked about DKRs. Dynamic Knowledge Repositories are server based systems of on demand knowledge that you make available to your reader. We have that capability here in the RAIN and we have had it for some time. Wordpress Blogs--building a branded Wordpress Blog is a critical next step in creating that powerful Circle of Engagement that you desire for your readers and your clients. My clients often times tell me that when they searched the North State they found me everywhere. I do this by creating a dynamic and compelling presence in my niche markets. I have sites for Alternatives to Foreclosure, Foreclosures, First Time Home Buyers, Investors, and people looking to relocate to our area. My main Wordpress Blog is The Shasta Lifestyle where I brand for the North State and how we live surrounded by beauty and wilderness area.
Niche Market Syndication--The Wordpress blogs are the spigot for your niche market brands and offers you a wonderful opportunity to build SEO. Carefully thought out strategy can allow you to own not just the first or second position on Google but to own the entire first page of Google. I have a couple of search terms where I do own the entire page. Developing the unique brand for each market niche is a dance and a celebration for you and your local market. Have fun with it and your reader will also find it to be fun and very valuable.
Facebook--yes Facebook does bring you business. If it were a stand alone offering, I don't think that it would. My clients ask me "Are you on Facebook?". If I did not have a compelling presence there, I personally feel that they would be let down. They ask me question about real estate and I answer. They are engaged with me. You must first have a profile that is engaging and has interest from others. From a good following, you then create and brand a Facebook page. You can decide to have it be for all your business or you can create for niche markets. A word of caution it is better to have one that rocks than several that do not. Hootsuite can help with managing your offerings out to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Twitter--yes, I get business from Twitter. It again would not be the only thing that you would do to get business but it is again another place where you would want to be found. Create again a beautiful page that represents your brand awareness and has you noticed. I once had 10,000 followers and that is dropping. I will be making a new effort with Twitter this year and again, Hootesuite makes it easier.
LinkedIn--offers many opportunities. You can syndicate your blog to Linked in and you can start discussion groups on your niche markets. It is another spoke in the Circle of Connection that links your on-line marketing presence in an endless circle of connection. It is not one place that you can be found but in many places. When you embrace this Circle of Engagement, your content inspires and is syndicated out and re-purposed. You are creating that "shot gun" effect of a marketing presence that rocks.
Social Media Sites--there are many and you should seek them out and learn about them all. YouTube and establishing your own real estate channel for your brand and your market....how cool is that. Delicious, Digg, Technorati and StumbleUpon are just a few. Google them and learn about them. Check it all out and have some fun. The digital world has changed the playing field and you have opportunity and the abiliity to effectively market and brand for yourself in your market. Make it happen. It will not be overnight. It will be by degress but the end result is something quite awesome. A Circle of Engagement that offers your clients knowledge and value.
HubSpot--if you need some help with all of this....HubSpot offers some free things to help you and they also offer you marketing services for Social Media and web development. They rock.

Relocating to the North State - Trinidad by the Sea - North State Must See Destination--you will want to make sure that you visit and enjoy the Northern Coast of California. Know around the World as some of the most dangerous Seas and also know to be one of the most beautiful Coasts. Spectacular bluffs and craggy coastal waters make for blue green waters that just melt away into blue green skys. The eye seeks to see more and the soul finds peace for the day.

We love to take day trips and visit all the beautiful areas around Redding and Shasta County CA. We were in Eureka in October, 2011 and enjoyed a couple of days visiting and getting to know the area. One of the places we fell in love with was Trinidad CA by the Sea. Here are a few photos of our time at the Trinidad Beach.

This is a protected cove with nice beach front. It has wonderful views of this wild part of the California Coast but offers those that want to spend time at the beach a place of shelter and beauty.

What Is A CDPE? Certified Distressed Property Expert

The Certified Distressed Property Expert Designation (CDPE) is verification that a REALTOR® has taken the initiative to become an educated and prepared advocate on the behalf of a homeowner in distress. Earned by completing a comprehensive curriculum via the Distressed Property Institute, real estate agents with the CDPE designation are equipped with the expertise to help distressed property owners avoid foreclosure.

As a CDPE designated REALTOR®, I am committed to helping people who are facing foreclosure by finding the right solution for their individual needs and seeing the issue resolved. A portion of my CDPE designation course work involved short sales.
